Sharing Courses
ARVS teachers will work with parents of multiple children to determine if curriculum sharing is appropriate under the Arkansas State Standards and Curriculum Frameworks. Because of Standards for Accreditation adopted by the Arkansas State Board of Education and the State Curriculum Frameworks, it is difficult for students to share courses if the students are not classified at the same grade level by their local school district.
ARVS uses the following guidelines when approving each student's course placement:
- Math and Language Arts courses are never shared among different grade levels.
- History and Art are integrated courses and, if shared, are shared jointly.
- Courses are not shared if siblings are more than one grade level apart (i.e., kindergarten and second graders can share History and Art at the first grade level, but a second grader and a fifth grader could not share courses).
- Because of the prerequisites for secondary courses, ARVS discourages middle school students (sixth through eighth grades) from sharing courses below their grade or ability level.
- Final course placement for all ARVS students is contingent upon teacher recommendation and approval by the academic administrator.
